Maciej Miś, MD, Ph.D.
Doctor Maciej Miś is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine of the Medical University of Wrocław, which he completed in 2000. He began his adventure with microsurgery already during his studies as a member of the Hand and Peripheral Nerve Surgery Circle and during internships at the
Plastic Surgery Clinic in Polanica Zdrój. During his specialisation he became interested in the developing techniques of minimally invasive endovascular treatment of cerebral vascular malformations under the supervision of one of the pioneers of this treatment, Doctor Maciej Szajner.
He obtained his specialisation in neurosurgery in 2009.
He deepened his interest and knowledge in the endovascular treatment of cerebral vascular malformations: aneurysms, arteriovenous angiomas and meningeal fistulas of the brain and spinal cord during numerous courses and internships in foreign centres.
The special fields of interest of doctor Maciej Miś are:
- endovascular procedures for cerebrovascular and spinal disorders,
- surgery for brain and spinal cord tumours
- minimally invasive treatment of spinal disorders using endoscopic techniques.
These are medical problems with which you can visit doctor miś:
- lumbar, cervical and thoracic discopathy
- spinal canal stenosis
- cancer/tumours of the spine
- spinal injuries
- spinal deformities
- spondylolisthesis and spondylolysis
- sciatica
- spinal pain
- diagnosis and qualification for surgical and endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular and spinal cord malformations: cerebrovascular aneurysms, arteriovenous haemangiomas, meningeal fistulas of the brain and spinal cord
At vratislavia medica, doctor miś performs the following surfical procedures:
- spinal endoscopy
- microdiscectomy
- laminotomy
- interbody stabilisation (TILF, PLIF, ALIF)
- long-segment stabilisation
- epidural blocks
- minimally invasive procedures (Discogel, Gelstix)
In 2016, Doctor Maciej Miś, together with his brother Doctor Marcin Miś, an interventional radiologist, developed a technique for treating complex aneurysms referred to as the “Teddy Bear Technique”.
The “Teddy Bear Technique” is a novel method of treating brain aneurysms without having to open the skull. The first procedure using this technique was carried out on a 34-year-old patient with a middle cerebral artery aneurysm, which no doctor wanted to operate on. Doctor Maciej Miś together with Doctor Marcin Miś were the first in the world to develop this method of treating complicated aneurysms.
The Miś brothers’ method was described in the pages of the prestigious monthly journal “Interventional Neuroradiology”.
